Bloemfontein - Free State defeated Western Cape 4-1 on Monday before crushing Head Office team 2-0 on Tuesday in their opening matches of the on-going SAPS Women’s National Soccer Championship at the Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem.
The tournament, which will finish on Friday, comprises nine provincial teams and an invitational team from the SAPS head office. The teams have been divided into two groups.
KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Northern Cape are in Group A, while the Free State are in Group B alongside Western Cape, Head Office, Limpopo and North West.
Eastern Cape also got their campaign off to a positive start when they defeated Mpumalanga 4-2 in other match on the opening day. Head office also registered a big win on Monday, defeating Limpopo 8-1.
The teams will play round-robin stages until Wednesday. The semi-finals will be played on Thursday while the 3rd and 4th playoff and the final will be played on Friday.
