Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein Celtic and Black Aces played to a 1-1 draw in their season opening Premier Soccer League clash at the Free State Stadium.
The first half seemed destined to end goalless, but Aces broke the deadlock in the first minute of stoppage time before the break.
Zimbabwean striker Tendai Ndoro somehow managed to beat Patrick Tignyemb from an almost impossible angle near the right by-line to send the visitors into the break 1-0 up.
Following the break, Lerato Lamola and Tumelo Mogapi started up front in the second half and the difference told almost immediately.
Lamola was the architect Celtics’ 54th minute equaliser, with his cross from the left forcing a mistake in the Aces defence. Captain Joel Mogorosi was on hand to capitalise, steering home a calm finish to make it 1-1.
Following the match, coach Ernst Middendorp he was not happy with his team’s performance and expects more points each and every match.
“The first half was not really what we implemented, not really executed the game plan.
“The second half was a bit better in terms of positioning in the front with the two changes. In the end it was good, it was a working day, but not really the soccer I would you we can be happy about after finishing the game”, said Middendorp.
“Black Aces has the same quality compared to teams like Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United. You can really pick up full points, not only a draw if you do your job as it is required.
“Each and every game can be a win, but you have do and execute in the proper way as we train and not in an easy going way,” Middendorp concluded.
Phunya Sele Sele will be looking to set the record straight when they face Orlando Pirates at the Free State Stadium on Wednesday.
