Bloemfontein - Celtic have suffered their first defeat of the PSL season after going down to Kaizer Chiefs in Soweto last night.

Mandla Masango's 78th minute winner was enough as the Amakhosi continued their dominance of the early season with a 1-0 over Phunya Sele Sele.

The win sent Chiefs to the top of the league standings with nine points and a 100 percent record from their opening three fixtures.

Amakhosi's victory was a 12th successive encounter without defeat against Celtic, who last managed a win against Chiefs in September 2009.

Coach Stuart Baxter said he was happy with his sides attitude, however it’s back to the drawing board for the Soweto giants.

“They were really dangerous, we were really dangerous.

“I thought the second half we stepped it up, we were braver, we took a few chances by throwing a few players forward and leaving two beat two with a front sweeper,” said Kaizer Chiefs coach, Stuart Baxter.

“I thought we had better play, we had better intentions without having great quality.

“It wasn’t one of our more fluent performances, but you’ve got to win those as well, we ground out.

“So I’m pleased with the attitude in the second half, but we can play a lot better,” Baxter added.

Celtic coach, Ernst Middendorp who wasn’t a happy camper after the sides two draws against Black Aces and Orlando Pirates, still wants his team to play as a team.

“It’s a team effort and we lost the game.

“We are ten players plus the goalkeeper in the defence and we should be ten players plus the goalkeeper in out attack, “ said Celtic coach, Ernst Middendorp.

“At the moment we are working on it, that it what we have to do.

“As I said from the beginning against Wits, we have to improve in certain individual performances.

“We know it can be done better with some players, we see some players at the moment like Gabadino Mhango and we’ve see Gabadinio for example last season.

“Yes, he’s struggling a little bit, but he’s getting more attention from the opposition, but there’s no blame on him,” Middendorp concluded.

Celtic face AmaZulu next week Wednesday at the Moses Mabidha Stadium in Durban.
