Five-time champions Roger Federer and Serena Williams reached the US Open second round, but found themselves sharing the headlines with teenage upstarts CiCi Bellis.

Former world number one, and 17–time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer and got his US Open at Flushing Meadows off to a resounding win.
 
The Swiss master resumed his quest for an 18th Grand Slam title with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6  win over Marinko Matosevic from Australia.
World number one, Serena Williams in her turn is hunting for a 18th Grand Slam and begun her quest with a win over compatriot, Taylor Townsend.
 
Williams blasted her way to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Townsend.
 
Following his match, Federer said it was a tight contest, but he felt he was always in control.
 
"It's never easy playing a first round," said Federer.
 
"Marinko has a big game, you never know what to expect. It was more difficult in the third. He fought well to come back.
 
"But it's always good to win a tiebreaker. I came up with some really good passing shots tonight," said Federer next plays another Australian, Sam Groth.
 
South Africa’s Kevin Anderson is up against clay court specialist, Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay today.
