Bafana share points with the Super Eagles | News Article

Bafana Bafana and Nigeria played to a goalless draw in their much anticipated 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier showdown at the Cape Town Stadium last night.

Coming off the back of their 3-0 win over Sudan just five days earlier, South Africa looked the better side and would consider themselves unlucky not to have grabbed maximum points.

The visitors were visibly anxious following their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Congo-Brazzaville last Friday, which was the Super Eagles first-ever home loss in AFCON football.

Both sides created numerous good chances to find the back of the net, however sharing the points is the most accurate reflection of the match, with nothing to separate the old foe.

For coach Shakes Mashaba it’s mission accomplished by not leaving points on the park in his two opening matches at the teams new mentor.

He earlier indicated the team need to develop a winning culture and bring back the smiles to the faces of the supporters.

The draw is just second between the two countries, with the Nigerians leading the head-to-head battle with five wins and a loss.

The result sees South Africa lying second in the group on four points behind Congo Republic, who beat Sudan in an earlier match to move six points, while Nigeria are third on one point.

In a few of last night's other results saw Cameroon thumped the Ivory Coast 4-1, Burkina Faso hammered Angola 3-0 and Senegal beat Botswana 2-0.
