Free State Stars out to upset Ajax | News Article
Bloemfontein - The Premier Soccer League action resumes this week following an international break, and Free State Stars are among the teams that will be desperate to pick up where they left off.

Stars travel to Cape Town on Saturday to face Ajax Cape Town, whose recent outstanding performance has put them in the second spot with 11 points.

Ea Lla Koto enjoyed a great run in their previous matches prior to the break, picking up seven points in the last three matches.

The man in charge, Tom Saintfiet, admitted that the break had negatively affected the team’s momentum, but is confident his troops will do well.

“We were in a good mood and the break came. However, I’m not too worried, because I know the boys are still in it and the spirit is there,” he told OFM Sport.

“So, we’re aiming to resume with a bang and good result. I’m confident we will pick up maximum points, or at least a point.”

Saintfiet said Ajax is a different side compared to a few seasons ago and that makes them even more dangerous and tricky, especially as they will be playing at home.

“Couple of seasons ago, they were struggling and fighting for relegation. Now, they are doing well, have been outstanding so far this season. Therefore we cannot underestimate them.”

Saintfiet added that the Bethlehem-side will try not to give away chances, but at the same avoid being too defensive as this could allow the Capetonians, who only conceded three goals so far, to dominate possession.

Saintfiet made it clear that they are out to get three points, but has called for patience and cautions from his troops, adding that it played a huge role in their wins this season.

“Against Supersport (3-2 win) and University of Pretoria (1-0 win), our goals came in the second half and that shows how patient we were.”

“We have to be focused on not conceding goals, but when the scoring chance presents itself, we need to take it.”

Kick-off at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town is at 20:15
