Dutch pair Reinder Nummerdor/Christiaan Varenhorst and Martina Bonnerova/Barbora Hermannova of the Czech Republic ended the 2014 season perfectly yesterday  with a golden crown at the FIVB World Tour Beach Volleyball Mangaung Open.



The Dutch defeated Chilean cousins Esteban and Marco Grimalt 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) in the final. France’s Youssef Krou and Edouard Rowlandson won the bronze medal.



Bonnerova and Hermannova grabbed the gold medal with a 2-0 win (21-15, 21-17) over Japan’s Takemi Nishibori and Sayaka Mizoe, while Russia’s Evgenia Ukolova and Maria Prokopeva claimed the bronze medal.



· Nummerdor/Varenhorst won their second gold in only three World Tour events together. They also won the Sao Paulo Grand Slam in September.

· Bonnerova/Hermannova and Take/Mizoe never won a World Tour medal before. For Japan it was the first medal since 2000.

· The Mangaung gold medallists in each gender will split $11,000, silver will receive $8,000, bronze medallists get $6,000 and the fourth place finishers will earn $4,500 of the $150,000 total purse.

· The FIVB Mangaung Open is the 314th FIVB men’s tournament since its first event in 1987 and the 277th FIVB women’s tournament since the FIVB began women’s competitions in 1992.



Two out of three for Mangaung Open champions Nummerdor/Varenhorst

In only their third World Tour event together Reinder Nummerdor and Christiaan Varenhorst grabbed their second gold on Sunday at the FIVB Beach Volleyball Mangaung Open. The Dutch team defeated Esteban and Marco Grimalt from Chili 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) in the final of the South African event.

The 38-year old Nummerdor is now the most successful Dutch player in history with 11 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals. He is also a two-time Olympian, finishing fifth in Beijing and London with his former partner Richard Schuil.
 



First medal is gold for Czech pair Bonnerova/Hermannova in Mangaung

Martina Bonnerova and Barbora Hermannova claimed their first ever career medal on the World Tour on Sunday by winning the FIVB Beach Volleyball Mangaung Open. The Czech pair defeated Japan’s Takemi Nishibori and Sayaka Mizoe 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) in the final.

The Mangaung Open was the final leg of the 2014 FIVB World calendar. The pre-olympic 2015 season features six Grand Slams, a new Major Series involving four tournaments, a World Tour Finals in the United States and six Opens, totalling 17 tournaments and record prize money of $9.3 million.



The double gender Fuzhou Open, which was the first event on this year’s calendar, will again begin proceedings from April 21-26. From June 26-July 5 all eyes will be on the Dutch cities of The Hague, Apeldoorn, Amsterdam and Rotterdam, which will host the $1 million FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships The Netherlands 2015.
