Celtic hammer AmaZulu | News Article

Bloemfontein Celtic has returned to winning ways after they beat AmaZulu beat 3-0 in the Premier Soccer League yesterday.

The win which is coach Clinton Larsen’s first since returning to the team in late December has seen the side climb in to the top half of the standings, on 24 points in seventh.

Striker Lerato Lamola opened the scoring for Phunya Sele Sele in the 35th minute to give the home side a 1-0 lead going into the half-time break.

The lead was doubled a minute into the second stanza with Zimbabwean defender Carlington Nyadombo scoring an own goal for Usuthu in the 46th minute.

Seven minutes later Lamola sealed the deal with a shot from the penalty spot for his brace.

Following the match, Larsen said he was happy with the way his side played over the last two games.

"We just played good football as a team," Lamola said about the teams performance.

"Even the technical team, who encourage us to work hard, played a big role and at the end of the day we achieved three points collectively," the striker concluded.

The coach in his turn was left a happy man after sharing points with the Amakhosi during the week and after yesterdays win.

“Firstly, like I said before the game my main concern was our application and our professionalism.

“If you’re going to treat AmaZulu the way we treated Kaizer Chiefs…in that respect I’ve very happy.

“I think the players gave a really polished performance today, kept another clean sheet which important and scored three goals.

“I can’t ask for more at this stage and we’re looking forward to the next game,” Larsen said.

Celtic next face sister club, Roses United on Sunday in Bloemfontein in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.
