Good wins for Soweto giants and champs | News Article

It was good night for the big guns in the Premier Soccer League with the Soweto Giants and champions, Mamelodi Sundowns all securing wins.

At the Orlando Stadium, Oupa Manyisa and Thabo Rakhale scored on either side of the break to give the Buccaneers a 2-1 with over the Clive Barker-less Black Aces.

The win takes Pirates to third with 43 points from 24 matches, while Aces go 13 to 11 with 26 points from 24 matches.

At Loftus Verfeld, champions Mamelodi Sundowns kept the pressure on Kaizier Chiefs with a 3-0 win over Chippa United.

An own goal from Mbhuyiselo Sambu, a penalty from Teko Modise and a late strike from Rodney Ramagalela kept the Brazilians within reach of Kaizer Chiefs.

The loss puts pressure on Ernst Middendorp’ side with their 11th defeat of the season and they find themselves just 8 points clear of the relegation zone.

In Dobsonville the AmaKhosi continued their title challenge by beating Moroka Swallows 3-0 for their 16th league win of the season.

The victory, secured by an own goal and fine late strikes by George Lebese and Bernard Parker, saw Chiefs tighten their grip on the title challenge after suffering they were stunned bu Maritzburg United last week.

The result left coach Stuart Baxter happy as the season start heading towards the home straight.

The league takes bit of a break now with the bulk of the Nedbank Cup Last 16 action taking place this week.

Tomorrow evening Bloemfontein Celtic travel to the Mother City where they will face Roger de Sa's Ajax Cape Town in their cup match.
