Celtic remain on course for fourth place finish | News Article

Bloemfontein Celtic kept their fourth place finished dream alive in the Premier Soccer League last night with a 2-1 win over Chippa United in Port Elizabeth.

Phunya Sele Sele came back from a goal down after Andile Mbenyane opened the scoring in the 29th minute at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

PSL Golden Boot contender, Lerato Lamola earned a penalty after being fouled in the box by Manti Moholo.

Lamola missed the initial spot-kick, but scored just moments later in the 54th minute to score his 12th League goal of the season and make it 1-1.

However an 82nd minute Christoph Komane own goal was the defining score to see Celtic move to 40 points.

Meanwhile in Bethlehem, a resurgent Free State Stars did Celtic a huge favour by beating the fourth placed Wits 1-0, thanks to a 74th minute Hendrik Somaeb scored the only goal of the game at Goble Park.

Ea Lla Koto pick up three much-needed points as they move up to 31 points on the League table while Wits' quest for third received a massive dent.

The win means’ Gavin Hunts’ students remain on 45 points, five clear of Celtic.

In some of last nights’ other results, Orlando Pirates thumped SuperSport United 4-1, newly crowned champions Kazier Chiefs beat the outgoing champions Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 and Maritzburg United upset Ajax Cape Town with a 1-0 win.
