Louw close to national call-up | News Article

Free State U21 women’s hockey player, Antonette Louw, could well deserve a call-up to the senior national team later this week.

The star striker made waves a schoolgirl last year when she scored her 300th goal in her final school match for Hoër Meisieskool Oranje.

Recently the player was included in the U21 national team which was announced at the conclusion of the recent U21 IPT in Bloemfontein.

The national team will go to the World League semi-finals in Valencia, Spain without captain Marsha Cox, who will take breather after the Dutch domestic league where she is currently playing.

Furthermore the national team will be without star forward Sulette Damons who sustained the ACL injury to her knee a few weeks agol and this may pave the way for Louw's call-up.

During the IPT in the City of Roses two weeks ago, national coach, Sheldon Rostron told OFM Sport that Louw is the special kind of player they are looking for.

A 28 player squad will gather in Pretoria from 28 May to 7 June before depart for the World League which starts on 10 June.

South Africa will face Ireland, the USA, Uruguay and Germany in Pool A.
