Bafana beat Angola | News Article

The South African national football team broke their winless drought by coming from behind to beat Angola yesterday afternoon in their international friendly against Angola.

Bafana Bafana beat the Angolans 2-1 at the Cape Town Stadium to restore some ride after being knocked out of the COSAFA Cup and playing to a goalless draw against Gambia in their AFCON qualifier.

Bafana were the first on the an attack only for the referee to blow for off-side with Ayanda Patosi attacking down the right flank just three minutes into the game.

Shakes Mashaba’s side was mounting pressure on the visiting team as the game approached the first 20 minutes, but nothing came out of it as Thamsanqa Gabuza sent the ball wide to Patosi.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 25th minute as Alexander Cristovao Mfutila scored with a powerful strike from range against the run of play.

The game went into the half-time break at one goal apiece after persistent pressure saw Gabuza finding the back of the net for South Africa.

The defining score of the game came in the 68th minute when Patosi’s strike hit the cross bar and back into the field for Patosi to hand the home side the advantage for their first win in five games.
