Amakhosi sign Abraw and Ritchie | News Article

The Premier Soccer League champions, Kazier Chiefs have been shopping in a big way during the off-season and yesterday unveiled no less than eight new players on their books.

The Amakhosi unveiled Bafana Bafana defender and striker Daniel Cardoso and Bongani Ndulula of Free State Stars and AmaZulu, as well as Cardoso’s teammate from Ea Lla Koto, Camaldine Abraw.

The Abraw signing has been marred with controversy with Bloemfontein Celtic claiming to have signed the player and Phunya Sele Sele prepared to fight his contract at Chiefs.

Bloemfontein Celtic chairman, Max Tshabalala nor coach Clinton Larsen could be reached for comment on the matter.

However in a statement released by the club on their website, Tshabalala reaffirmed that they did sign the player.

Tshabalala added that an amicable solution has to be found.

"Perhaps Abraw’s story was misconstrued and blown out of proportion with a certain quarter of media thinking that we are fighting against someone. The reality is that the striker voluntarily joined us on a three year deal which was signed at our offices.

"He never made mention of any one year extension option signed with his former team. We acted within the parameters of the Fifa rules, that of negotiating with a player in the last six months of his contract before it lapses. Abraw made it distinctively clear that he will be a free agent by the end of the season.

"Upon hearing that the player has signed with Kaizer Chiefs recently, we then took it upon ourselves to discuss the matter with the club’s representatives in an effort to solve the matter amicably. It is absolutely imperative for us to continue with good relationship with other teams but again players must be educated not to create a struggle between clubs by trying to bargain. We are a professional team and will unreservedly try to solve the matter for the benefit of all parties concerned.

The Glamour Boys have also swooped in on former Celtic defender, Keegan Ritchie who according to sources close to OFM Sport wasn’t happy at the Bloemfontein-based side.

The Amakhosi kick-off their campaign in the Soweto derby when they face bitter rivals Orlando Pirates on 1 August in the Carling Black Label Cup at the FNB Stadium, while Celtic kick-off their season against Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on 8 August.
