SPECIAL REPORT: Pierre Korkie─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 12:31 Mon, 08 Dec 2014
The former Bloemfontein teacher, Pierre Korkie, won’t be home for Christmas as anticipated by the humanitarian organization Gift of the Givers. This after he was killed yesterday in a crossfire during a US military attempt to free American hostage, Luke Somers in Yemen. The two were held hostage by Yemeni Al-Qaeda millitants. According to the head of Gift of the Givers, Imtiaz Sooliman, who has been involved in negotiations for Pierre and his wife Yolandé’s release since they were kidnapped in Taiz in May last year, says Pierre’s death is even more tragic as Al-Qaeda had agreed to release him today. This after a team of Abyan leaders met yesterday morning to prepare the final security and logistical arrangements to bring Korkie to safety. OFM senior reporter Christal-Lize Muller compiled this special report
