Soldiers capture enormous 23-feet long snake near village after it feasted on farmers' pigs | News Article
The anaconda was slithering into the small rural town after treating itself to livestock from nearby fields.

A giant anaconda measuring over 20-feet-long has been captured after it crawled into a field of farm animals looking for lunch.

Soldiers were called into help remove the huge reptile after it was spotted in Caccu, a rural town in south-western Brazil.

The snake was captured after local farmers, puzzled by the disappearance of pigs and chickens, decided to lay in wait for the thief.

Stunned farmer Hebe Ramos, 45, said: "We assumed it was a person stealing livestock and got together to hunt them down.

"We were walking across a field when we came to a river and saw a movement in the bushes.

"And then we had the shock of our lives when we realised it was a huge anaconda, one that was large enough to eat a pig or even a child. A snake this size would easily finish them off for supper."

Keeping an eye on the huge 150kg reptile, the farmers waited until help arrived from a local military police unit.

Together, the soldiers and farmers seized the snake by its head and tail and dragged it to the road where a truck with a cage was waiting.

A spokesman for the military police said: "It was very difficult as the snake was very strong and was writhing around a lot.

"When we got it to the road we bundled it into the cage in the back of the truck, taking care it didn’t get hold of us. It was certainly strong enough to cause significant damage if it had managed to get hold of anyone."

The snake was taken to a remote lake where it was released.
