WHAT IN THE WORLD! - Man covered in 1.1 MILLION bees sets new world record - and smokes cigarette during attempt | News Article

This Chinese beekeeper isn't going to let the small matter of 1.1 million bees stop him from smoking a cigarette .

Gao Bingguo, 55, set a new Guinness World Record on Monday after being covered in a massive 17st of the insects on Monday.

He suffered 2,000 stings in the attempt - but managed to puff on a cigarette regardless.

Gao is no stranger to bees, having kept them for over 35 years.

He set a record of around 5st 3lb in June last year, but there was a sting in the tale when another Chinese beekeeper - Zhang Wei - usurped him by allowing 13st 2lb of the creatures on to his body.

But Gao, from Shandong Province, set the internet abuzz again with this ridiculous new attempt.

First of all he had a wash, as bees are known to be more likely to sting people with pungent body odour.

A number of queen bees, which attract worker bees, were then placed upon him in boxes.

Boxes of the latter were then dumped at his feet and directly on to him over a period of time, with the insects slowly crawling up and on to his body.

By the end Gao had around 1.1m of them crawling on him and over a stick he held aloft.

His body temperature rose to over 60 degrees Celsius during the attempt and he had a bath afterwards to soothe the stings.

It must have felt like honey after more than an hour of playing host to the creepy-crawlies.

The record was validated by officials from the Carrying the Flag World Records organisation.
