@LUNCH - Couple find amazing treasure trove under their floor, including $50,000 in cash | News Article

Two people doing DIY in their house found a safe while renovating their kitchen, including a rare bottle of bourbon and a book with what seems like a secret code in it...

Two people who live together decided to save a bit of money by doing some DIY in their house, renovating their kitchen by themselves. They not only managed to save money doing so, but they also managed to make $51,000(£33140).

The lucky people found a safe under the floor - and when they first moved in they had found a safe code at the back of a medicine cabinet, but never found a safe. They kept the code just in case.

Opening the safe - which they think looks 10-20 years old, they found wads of cash, an old book, and a rare bottle of bourbon.

One of them wrote on Imgur: "We stared in disbelief. Time stood still. I started to reach in the safe and Eddie yelled, ‘Wait it might be booby trapped!’ I’m still laughing at that one."

The cash is mostly in old $100 bills, and the bourbon is a bottle of James E Pepper, who is the inventor of the 'Old Fashioned'.

Unopened, and with an unbroken seal, the bottle is from 1960, aged six years. The book is 'A Guide for the Perplexed' by E F Schumacher, published in 1977. It has a picture of someone the two described as "a really sexy Gregory Peck looking dude."

Many of the pages contain clues. There is a note at the back which reads: "Alan, I have a book you must read. I’ve underlined a few key passages. Your friend, Vincent"

Maybe there is more treasure to be found...either way, these people are lucky that they decided to renovate their kitchen!
