Today sees the official release of a new single by MICHAEL LOWMAN. The single, featuring renowned Afrikaans singer KARLIEN VAN JAARSVELD on vocals with MICHAEL, is entitled MIXTAPE and comes from his new album, set for release in November 2016.

MIXTAPE was written towards the end of 2015 by MICHAEL during a spell in studio. He describes it as a song that wrote itself; he felt drawn to a certain head space, heard a distinct melody and felt the arrangement - all he needed was to sit in front of his keyboard and let the song take shape.

“MixTape is, without a doubt, firmly routed in 80s Pop Music inspiration. I’m a sucker for great melody, crystal synth lines and huge reverb. I wanted to write a big Pop song containing all these elements. It came together perfectly.” says Michael.

MICHAEL describes MIXTAPE as being about a particular feeling between two people in love. A new, daredevil, high school kind of love. They’re young, carefree and fearless. A beautiful thing.

He always knew that he wanted a female vocal on MIXTAPE. He wanted something specific for the song, and KARLIEN’s incredible ‘crystal’ vocal was it. He reached out to her, and she loved the song and wanted to be a part of it.

"Mixtape is one of the most exciting songs I have heard in a long time! I am honoured that Michael asked me to do vocals on the song. When I first heard the song, I was blown away. It took me back to a time when young boys and girls ran carefree, ruling the world with wild hearts, and I knew I had to get involved. Michael is extremely talented and professional, so it was an absolute pleasure working with him and I am so excited for the world to hear the song!" - Karlien van Jaarsveld. 

For someone who has not heard MIXTAPE yet, they’re in for a classic, feel-good, catchy, 80s Pop song with a beautiful female vocal layered over a breathy, singer/songwriter styled male vocal; all lying comfortably on a bed of reverb-filled drum sounds and suitably placed guitar lines.

MIXTAPE is the first single from a collection of new songs which will make up MICHAEL’s new album. This release marks a new chapter in his career as a musician; the beginning of something brand new.

 “I’ve come such a long way since my last album release - Crayon Boxes - in every possible way. My writing, my singing, my playing, my mindset… everything seems to have clicked all at once. I’m also completely independent as an artist, which has been something I’ve wanted for a long time now. I have complete control over all aspects of my art. You’re about to hear Michael Lowman as was always intended. It’s been a journey getting here, but it’s been worth it. Mixtape is the perfect track to ease my current fanbase into my new headspace. It’s a Pop song. Plain and simple.”
