• 1980: Prime Minister P.W. Botha concludes a five-day state visit to Taiwan, during which he and his twenty-member delegation meet Taiwan's Premier and other officials and discuss substantial cooperation in economic and technical projects.
• 1990: Three Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) members from Richards Bay are arrested in connection with an attack the previous week on a bus near Durban in which seven people were killed and 26 injured.
• 2006: The United States population reaches 300 million.
