Ficksburg - The Setsoto Municipality says it has nothing to hide after it requested councillors to sign an “Oath of Secrecy” last week during a council meeting in Ficksburg.
Municipal manager Tshepiso Ramakarane says the matter has been blown out of proportion.
He says as an administration officer of the municipality, they merely sought to restate the law by mitigating identified risks.
Ramakarane says the “Oath of Secrecy” was generated by the municipal administration and not councillors.
He confirmed on Wednesday that DA councillors did not sign the oath.
He says the municipality identified that there is a need to strengthen document and information control for risk management and emphasizes that the move is nothing sinister or illegal.

“A councillor may not without permission of the municipal council or committee disclose any privileged or confidential information of the council or committee to any unauthorized person. This is an act of general application that was passed by parliament and is binding on all councillors.”
