Historical Event:
• 1907: Indians in SA start a protest under Mohandas Gandhi against new legislation forcing all male members to carry passbooks and have their fingerprints registered.
• 1950: Lionel Ronald Louw, social worker and ordained minister of the Community of Faith is born in Worcester. He was delegate to several international conferences and received a DD from Payne Theological Seminary, Wilberforce University in 1990.
• 1971: A statement by Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Ghana National Assembly indicates a readiness to visit South Africa.
• 1988: Mazizi Maqekeza, ANC member, is shot dead whilst in hospital in Maseru, Lesotho.
• 1991: Authorities grant indemnity from prosecution to 2,605 anti-apartheid activists and also members of far right groups. The indemnity includes 1,819 members of Umkhonto we Sizwe.
• 2005: Noby Ngombane, 38, head of the Free State governments policy monitoring and evaluation unit in the premier's office, is shot dead at his house in Bloemfontein.
Arts, Music, TV:
• 1944: Phil du Plessis, SA poet, is born.
• Google intends to scan all known existing 129 million unique books before 2020.
• Google hired a camel to create the Street View of a desert.
Sports:
• 2004: Start of South African Games (22-26 March).
• Golf is the only sport to be played on the moon.
• The fastest recorded tennis serves are over 155 mph (250 kph).
