Residents evacuate homes after gas leakage─── 13:25 Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Beijing - More than 10 000 residents were evacuated from a city in southwestern China after ammonia leaked from a fertiliser plant, reports said on Tuesday.
The toxic gas started to leak late Monday from a pipe operated by the Chuanlong Chemical Company in a suburb of Nanchong city in Sichuan province, the West China City Daily reported.
Local media footage showed heavy traffic jams as residents fled the area in cars, motorcyles, bicycles and on foot.
Police and firefighters were able to control the leak and some residents have returned home, news reports said Tuesday.
