One day left for illegal Lesotho nationals to apply for special permit | News Article

Bloemfontein - Lesotho nationals, who are residing and/or working in South Africa illegally, have one day left to apply for a Lesotho Special Permit.

The deadline for applications is tomorrow.

The permit is issued under a special dispensation for Lesotho nationals who are working, studying or running businesses in South Africa and who have been in the country in such a capacity before 30 September 2015.

Early estimations were that an expected 400 000 to 500 000 applications will be submitted.

Acting Municipal Manager at the Mangaung Metro, Tankiso Mea, says the incorporation of Naledi Municipality – that stretches up to the Lesotho border, is going to be a new challenge for them.

"After the elections we will now have Naledi Municipality as part of us. It stretches up to the border. Already we are aware that national government is in the process of formalising the Lesotho citizens in South Africa – the majority without proper documentation. So that is one area in the Municipality that we will have to properly manage," he said.
