Zimbabwe civil servants still without salaries | News Article

Bloemfontein - Civil servants in Zimbabwe still have not received their salaries, following last week’s protests.

This has caused tension around the country, and indications are that another mass demonstration is set to take place tomorrow. Last week the Zimbabwean government indicated that officials will receive the rest of their salaries by the 7th of this month.

OFM News spoke to a government official, who did not want to be named for fear of intimidation. Media reports and videos on social media have surfaced this week of Zimbabwean police, brutally assaulting citizens. Our interviewee says things are tough and citizens can barely afford the cost of living.

"At the moment the government fails to pay its workers their salaries. Parastatals are not functioning, especially the Zimbabwe national broadcaster. Things are tough. I only got $50 of my salary. I need to pay rent, buy food and support my family, but could not do that. There is no cash."
