Harrismith fire caused injured to be in desperate need | News Article
Good Morning,

I hope you are all well.

You must all know by now about the fires that hit Harrismith last week. My husband’s cousin JP du Toit is the young man who got injured in this fire while trying to save his friend Nico who sadly passed away on Saturday.

JP is also the one who asked that the Dad and his son who also lived on the lodge “Mount Everest” to come and help who also sadly lost there lives in the fire.

JP is a foreman at the Mount Everest Game Lodge and this tragedy occurred while he was on duty.

JP is currently in the hospital in Bethlehem. He has 3rd degree burns over his arms, hands, legs, back , neck and face. His medical expenses is sky rocketing, fortunately they have a medical aid. Currently his parents are negotiating with the medical aid as they unfortunately had a bad month financially and regrettably their medical aid debit order was returned. As a family, all residing in the Johannesburg region, we wanted to transfer him to Alberton’s burn unit but due to the one month non-payment of the medical aid we were unable to do so.

My Uncle and Aunt (Daan & Amanda du Toit)as well as JP’s wife (Welri du Toit) and there little baby boy Jaunru (8 months old) has to travel to Bethlehem every day to be with JP in hospital. Financially they are no longer able to foot the bill of travelling to Bethlehem.

My uncle and aunt stay in Springs in JHB so they both had to take off from work to be with their son, a situation that is not ideal as no employer will be able to cope for a long-term period without employees coming to work.

JP has undergone his first skin transplant on Saturday which went well, he was supposed to have been back in theatre today but due to a problem with his lungs the procedure was postponed to Wednesday 24 September.

I am not too sure as if I should be specific about what we need. At this point in time, we need is a miracle! We are in desperate need of help with JP’s medical expenses and for his wife and parents to have accommodation close to the hospital where they can be with him every day without worrying about how they are going to get there or where they are going to stay. Alternatively, if we could get him transferred closer to home, it would help a great deal. They have enough to worry about as it is and if at least they do not have to worry about things like not being able to afford to be with their son / husband / father every day will help a lot. PLEASE if you can do anything for them to at least help them during this difficult time in their lives it would be so highly appreciated. We pray each day that God heals him completely and we trust and know that He will.

JP is the most wonderful young man you will ever meet, he is a wonderful new daddy and husband, there is not a thing that he would not do for the people he knows and loves. The Du Toit family has always been very very close, if one of us hurt we all hurt and if one of us struggle we all help. It’s just the way it’s always been. So for us to see JP in that situation and not being able to help, is killing us. I cannot even begin to think what his mom and dad is going through and especially his wife Welri, for her to not be able to help her husband is beyond sad. JP is very very hard broken that he cannot hold his baby boy.
