Following their five-wicket loss in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, South Africa need to return to winning ways tomorrow to avoid a series loss.

England comfortably chased down the 263-run target set by the Proteas with 22 balls to spare, with Alex Hales smashing 99 runs, while Jos Buttler blasted 48 not out from 28 deliveries.

Finding the right balance in the team will be key for South Africa and captain AB de Villiers says they need to win three-in-a-row, but they’re going to take it one small step at a time.

"We had a couple of opportunities in both the games we played and I know it sounds like I am singing the same song from the Test matches but it's true, it's a matter of getting it right and taking our opportunities.

"In Bloemfontein we had a chance to get it right, I knew that rain was going to come and we didn't get the timing right. Today again, we had the opportunity to take them down and unfortunately it didn't happen that way."

“It’s one of the situations that if we were two-nil up, I would have given you exactly the same answer.

“It’s very important to take a look at the next ODI and take it one small step at a time.

“We’ve got to win three ODI’s in a row to win that series and that’s the fact of the matter.

“In situations like this, whether you are two-nil up or down, you have to take a small step and that’s the next ODI and do the basics well again. Not look too far ahead and ja, one step at a time.

“The next ODI is the most important for us.”

Tuesday’s third ODI at SuperSport Park in Centurion gets underway at 13:30.
