The hosts are out! The underdogs, the West Indies, sent India packing last night in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup.

The Calypso Boys silenced the capacity crowd at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai last night with a seven-wicket win over India.

The Windies won the toss and sent India in to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium.

India would have sensed a victory heading their way when they scored 192 for two with Virat Kohli scoring 89 unbeaten runs from 63 deliveries, while Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane scored 43 and 40 respectively.

Dismissing the master blaster, Chris Gayle, for 5 runs with the Windies’ score on six would have further fuelled the home side’s confidence, however, Johnson Charles and Lendl Simmons had other ideas.

The pair put on a 97-runs third wicket partnership laying the foundation for the win.

Simmons made the best of being caught off two no-balls to blast his way to an unbeaten 83 off 51 balls, while the VKB Knights man, Andre Russell, smashed 43 from 20 balls.

Simmons says the team character proved that they can win big matches even if Gayle doesn’t fire.

The toss was an important one to win, especially with the match starting half an hour earlier.

This is one of the many factors captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni says contributed to their loss.

However, an old saying in cricket goes “Catches win Matches” and this proved to be true again last night with Simmons being caught off two no-balls, and having been caught on the boundary, however, the fielder’s foot touched the boundary… resulting in a six.

Dhoni conceded that while nobody intentionally bowls a no-ball, it was the most disappointing thing in the match.

The West Indies will now face England in Sunday’s final and for the first time in the history of the T20 World Cup a team will be crowned as a two-time champion with the English winning it in 2010 and the Windies claiming the honours in 2012.

On Wednesday, England shocked the impressive Black Caps of New Zealand by 7 wickets to make it into the championship match.

Jason Roy, who was the hero for England with 78 runs, says even though captain Eoin Morgan hasn’t been in good nick with the bat, he has to be credited for leading the team to the final.

Sunday afternoon’s highly anticipated final between England and the West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata gets underway at 15:30.

And that’s stumps with this edition of the Super Over.
