Theunis du Bruyn will be leading the VKB Knights cricket team as from the 2016/17 season.

De Bruyn, who is one of the new boys on the block, takes over the role from the spinning all-rounder, Werner Coetsee.

Coetsee has lead the side for the past two seasons with mixed fortunes and the highlight of his tenure was without a doubt leading the side to the 2014 RamSlam T20 final against the Cape Cobras.

Head coach, Nicky Bojé, says they are heading into a new era of Knights cricket.

"Werner Coetsee has done a great job over the last couple of years but we are moving into a new era and I am excited that Theunis de Bruyn will be leading the way forward for this coming season.

"I wish him all the best as Captain."

The hard-hitting batsman, De Bruyn, joins the Knights from the Titans, however, played for the team as a loan player last season.

The other big names joining the Knights is the master blaster, David Miller, the fast bowler, Marchandt de Lange and the veteran spinner, Robin Petersen.

Meanwhile, the former Knights opening bowler, Quinton Friend, has been appointed as the head of the Knights Academy and he will also be coaching the women’s team.
