It’s the annual VKB Knights awards function on Wednesday evening in Bloemfontein and the team will be rewarding their players for their contributions on the field during the 2015/16 season.

The 24-year-old seamer, Duanne Olivier, is expected to do well following his outstanding season with the ball in which he took 41 wickets in 7 Sunfoil Series matches.

The wicketkeeper, Rudi Second, is another player that shone during the previous season and did well in the 50-over format by scoring 498 runs in 10 Momentum One-Day Cup matches, with the highest score of 135 not out against the Warriors, which was also the highest score in the competition.

The former Knights, Reeza Hendricks and Malusi Siboto, also had outstanding seasons for the side with bat and ball.

The former captain, Werner Coetsee, who recently took five wickets in an over in the Netherlands, is another player that may receive a special mention for his impressive all-round display.

The Knights CEO, Johan van Heerden, told OFM Sport that he is excited about the upcoming season.

“We’ve got fantastic signings with four new players as well as some local players,” said Van Heerden.

“I must say if you look at all the players knocking on the door I’m very glad that I’m not a selector because I just don’t know how they are going to select the sides. The options are really fantastic.

“It’s for the first time that I feel we can go onto the field with match winners and not only in batting or bowling, but all round we’ve really got players that will come to the front.

The squad for the 2016/17 season will also be introduced at the function.

Wednesday night’s awards function takes place at Emoya Estate in Bloemfontein.
