The Proteas batsman, Temba Bavuma, scored a century during his One-Day International debut to lead South Africa to a 204-run victory over Ireland at Willowmoore Park.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 354 for 5 in their allotted 50 overs, with Quinton de Kock and Bavuma posting a 159 opening partnership.
De Kock was dismissed for 82 runs by Kevin O’Brian, while Bavuma scored 113 runs from 123 deliveries.
JP Duminy had a good day 52 runs with the willow, while Ferhaan Berhadien scored 50.
Ireland were then dismissed for in 30.5 overs, with Duminy taking 4 wickets for 16 runs in 4.5 overs.
Bavuma said it was tough scoring runs in Benoni, but it helped batting with De Kock.
"I was able to perform the way I performed because of the way Quinny plays.
"Up front he makes any wicket look flat.
"He can score runs at will so it allowed me to take a bit more time and settle the nerves."
Ireland and Australia lock horns in Benoni tomorrow before the world champions face South Africa on Friday at SuperSport Park.
