The new Proteas seamer bowler, Lungi Ngidi, is excited at the chance of representing his country as from Friday.

The Hilton College old boy was one of five new players called up to the Proteas T20 squad for the three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka.

The impressive right-arm fast bowler is still very inexperienced at domestic level, with only 27 T20 matches for his franchise, the Titans, while he has only played in 7 domestic four-day matches.

Ngidi says while he didn’t expect to be called up by the Proteas so soon in his fledgling carry, he has enjoyed the ride so far.

"I wouldn’t say that I expected it sooner, but the journey has been amazing for me, everything has unfolded quickly.

"I have put in a few performances here and there but the coaches were always reminding me that consistency is the best thing.

"That is what I tried to do, one step at a time, I tried to be as consistent as possible, and the performances came naturally with playing well."

The other newbies in the Proteas T20 squad are Theunis de Bruyn, Mangaliso Mosehle, Dane Paterson and Jon-Jon Smuts, while Andile Phehlukwayo has played in 5 ODI's.

The first T20 International will be played on Friday evening at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
