South Africa’s Christiaan Basson has taken the early lead at the Alfred Dunhill Championship being played at Leopard Creek in Malelane.
The new European Tour official teed off with the event while at the same time the Sunshine Tour is drawing to a conclusion.
Basson fired a near perfect bogey-free round of eight under par 64 to take the lead in a round that produced 8 birdies.
At the moment South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel, Zimbabwe’s Mark Williams and England’s Matt Ford are sharing tied second on five under par 67.
Speaking after his round, Basson said he surprised even himself with his great round. Defending champion, Brandon Grace, is back in tied 40th on 1 under 71 along with Dean Burmester and Alex Haindl of Bloemfontein.
The winner of the Alfred Dunhill Challenge wins the final entry into the Nedbank Golf Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club.
