McIlroy targets career slam─── MORGAN PIEK 09:21 Wed, 06 Apr 2016
Former world number one, Rory McIlroy, says he is inspired by the USA’s Jordan Spieth and Australia’s Jason Day ahead of the 97th Masters which tees off tomorrow.
McIlroy will be targeting the illusive Grand Slam of golf, with the Masters being the only one of the four majors to evade him.
In eight attempts at Augusta he has never finished higher than fourth.
McIlroy, Spieth and Day have all been the worlds leading golfer in the past year, however, the 22-year-old has been tipped as favourite to win his second green jacket after winning the Masters last year.
Should McIlroy win this week, he will follow in the footsteps of South Africa’ Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen as the only players to have won a career slam.
The Northern Irishman is of the view that he has what it takes to win, but his putting has let him down in the past.
South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel are tipped as dark horses, while Branden Grace won’t be underestimated.
The Masters at the iconic Augusta tees off tomorrow.
