The USA beat Europe to win the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2008.

The USA beat the visitors from across the Atlantic 17-11 at Hazeltine in Minnesota after winning 7 of their 12 singles matches.

The biggest was without a doubt Patrick Reeds’ 1-up win over Rory McIlroy.

Rickie Fowler beat Justin Rose 1-up as well while Brandt Snedeker beat the spaceman, Andy Sullivan, 3 and 1.

The win was sealed by the last man to be named in Team USA, Ryan Moore, who holed an eagle on the 16th and followed that with a birdy on the 17th, taking his team to an unassailable 15-10 lead.

The USA’s captain, Davis Love III, says he is proud of his team’s win during what was a testing week.

"It's a breath of fresh air," said Love.

"We came here ready to go. It started in March with Jack Nicklaus telling us to be prepared and throughout with Tiger Woods telling us the strategy.

"It was a new system and the picks were confusing, but everything else we were prepared for.

"It was a new chapter over the last two years and the biggest thing is not really the win, but that we are all pulling in the same direction together.

"We are going in a great direction. The veteran players have showed them what we want them to do for the next 20 years."

The 2018 Ryder Cup will be played at the Albatross Course at Le Golf National in France.
