The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship teed off at St Andrews in Scotland Thursday and is the norm provided for some thrilling golf.

The iconic tournament is the biggest pro-am in world golf and sees golfers going head-to-head with celebrities and sports stars on the Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

This years’ tournament has a strong cricket presence with the two Protea greats, Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher, playing as well as the three former England captains, Ian Botham, Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen.

The legendary Australian leg-spinner, Shane Warne, also teed it up at the tournament.

Kallis, who is without a doubt the greatest South African cricketer of all-time said that they are all still very competitive but its’ great catching up with and competing against their old foes.

“It’s still as competitive as hell,” said Kallis.

“We have a couple of games between us, bets and that kind of thing, so ja, it’s competitive but it’s nice to catch up with the guys after playing against them all these years.

“It’s events like that that get the guys together. It’s to sit around a table together and tell some stories and reminisce about yesteryear.”

Sweden’s Alex Noren leads the field after the first round on 8 under par 64.

Jbé Kruger is currently the leading South African in the field after the first round for a share of 9th on 4 under par.
