PE woman receives kidney from Australian friend | News Article

Port Elizabeth - A PE woman is due to be discharged from the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital in Cape Town tomorrow after a lifesaving kidney transplant from a living donor who came all the way from Australia to donate her kidney.

Fifty-nine-year-old Felicity Zieseniss received a kidney last week from long-time friend and former Port Elizabethan, 54 year-old Kathy Ward, who now lives with her husband and children in Brisbane. Looking remarkably fit and in high spirits, Ward flew back to Port Elizabeth this afternoon to continue her recovery before she returns to Australia.

Wards says that in a strange twist of fate, she returned to Port Elizabeth ten months ago to have dental surgery after crashing her bike while doing ironman training.

It was only then that she discovered that her good friend was in desperate need of a kidney transplant.
