Paramedics hike 3 hours to rescue pupil─── 04:42 Mon, 19 Sep 2016
Durban – Paramedics and KwaZulu-Natal Ezemvelo officials hiked three hours to treat a pupil who had fallen ill during a hike, emergency services said.
Netcare 911 spokesperson, Chris Botha, said emergency officials had to hike into the mountains at Giants Castle in the Drakensberg on Sunday.
According to Botha, emergency officials had to battle bad light during the rescue.
“The rescue team met up with the school party and after the boy was stabilised, they made a decision to walk him out due to the falling light and weather conditions. Once at the base camp, the patient was placed in an ambulance and then transported to hospital for the care he required.”
