Arrest warrant for woman accused of burning love rival to death | News Article

Brits - A warrant of arrest has been issued for Cynthia Mosopi, accused of killing a woman she believed was dating her boyfriend.

She failed to appear at the Brits Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Mosopi was supposed to appear alongside co-accused Gugulethu "Sharon" Thwala, Koketso Moyo and Victor Pilane for allegedly kidnapping and burning Boitumelo Dlamini, 19, to death in June.

The prosecutor told the court that Mosopi sent a medical certificate indicating that she was ill and could not attend court.

"The sick note is admitted and a warrant [of arrest] issued in respect of accused number four [Mosopi] suspended until January 12 2016," said Magistrate Moses Maswanganyi.

Mosopi was to appear for the first time alongside her co-accused. She spent three months in hospital after she allegedly burnt her feet when Dlamini was burnt to death.

She was discharged from the George Mukhari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa on September 10, appeared in the Brits Magistrate's Court on September 11 and was granted R1 000 bail.

Thwala, Moyo and Pilane appeared briefly in court and their case was postponed to January 12 2016 for further investigation.

The four allegedly kidnapped Dlamini at Eletsa Secondary School in Letlhabile near Brits, after Mosopi accused her of dating her boyfriend. Dlamini was allegedly doused with petrol and set alight. They have been charged with kidnapping and murder.

Thwala and Moyo have been granted R3 000 bail each, Pilane is out on R2 000 bail while Mosopi is out on a R1 000 bail.
