Mangaung receives an unqualified audit opinion with findings─── REFILWE GAESWE 17:14 Thu, 28 Jan 2016
Bloemfontein - Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality has received an unqualified audit opinion with findings.
This is according to the Auditor General’s report for the 2014/15 financial year. The report was tabled at a special council meeting in Bloemfontein on Thursday. Mangaung incurred over R200 million’s fruitless and wasteful expenditure, over R900 million of unauthorised expenditure and close to R8 million’s irregular expenditure.
A representative from the Auditor General’s office in the Free State, Alice Muller, told council that Mangaung has decreased their fruitless and wasteful expenditure as well as irregular expenditure tremendously. Muller alluded that the metro regressed in human resource management, policies and procedures, and Information Technology (IT) governance.
She said the municipality has improved and they would like to see it receiving a clean audit opinion in the near future.
