Former police officer arrested for ATM robberies in FS─── 09:39 Sat, 06 Feb 2016
Ficksburg - Two people, including a former police officer, have been arrested in connection with two ATM robberies in Ficksburg in the Free State.
Police spokesperson, Phumelelo Dhlamini, says the incidents occurred in Erweer Street at around 07:30 yesterday morning.
Dhlamini says four suspects, one a former detective constable with the SA Police Service, gained access to the ATMs via the entrance of a vacant shop nearby. The former officer and one other suspect were later arrested while two suspects managed to escape. An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.
Dhlamini says the detained suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition, a motor vehicle, bomb powder mixture, cigarettes and cash. They have been positively linked to recent business robberies in Meqheleng and Clocolan.
Dhlamini says the two will appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of business robbery and malicious damage to property.
