No arrests in connection with three rape cases in Bloemfontein | News Article

Bloemfontein - No police arrests have been made yet in connection with three separate incidents in which three women were raped in Bloemfontein over the past four days.

Police spokesperson, Wendy Nkabi, says in the most recent incident a 51-year-old woman was raped by an unknown man in her house in Wilgehof at about 07:00 this morning.

According to Nkabi another woman, aged between 30 and 40, was approached by a man in Memoriam Road while on her way to work yesterday. She just got off a taxi at about 09:00 when a man approached her and forced her with a sharp object to a secluded place at a nearby railway line. He raped her.

Nkabi says a 33-year-old woman was attacked and raped while sleeping in her house in Genl. De Wet in the early hours on Saturday. At this stage police cannot confirm that these separate incidents are related or that the same suspect might be involved.

Nkabi adds that in this morning’s Wilgehof incident, three men overpowered the woman’s 53-year-old husband while he was jogging in the street. They forced him into his house. One of the suspects was armed. Nkabi says while one of the robbers ransacked the couple’s home, another held the husband at gunpoint. A third suspect went into the bedroom and raped the woman. The suspects fled the scene on foot.

Nkabi did not say how the suspect in Saturday’s incident gained entrance into the house. A case of house robbery is being investigated.

Meanwhile, OFM News has learned from a reliable source that the suspect in Saturday’s incident gained entrance into the house through a bathroom window. The incident allegedly took place while the woman’s husband was called out to work. According to the information, the woman’s two children were in the house while she was raped. Nkabi could not confirm this.

The police investigation continues.
