Bloemfontein - Thousands of members belonging to the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) are marching to the Fidel Castro Building in Bloemfontein.

A memorandum of grievances will be handed over to the office of Premier Ace Magashule at around 13:30.

Earlier this morning, members from across the province arrived by bus at the Batho Police Station. OFM News have encountered some learners from the Sehunelo and Moemedi Schools who said they were sent back home as there is no school today.

Members have already embarked on a ‘work-to-rule’ campaign, since schools reopened for the second term and claim to be unhappy about the way MEC Tate Makgoe runs his department.

Sadtu’s provincial secretary, Mokholoane Moloi, explains:

“We are expecting more than 2 000 members to join the march. Many have already arrived and we are still expecting buses and minibuses to arrive. It is a very huge march. At the Fidel Castro building there will be speeches by our alliance partners, Cosatu, Cosas and the South African Communist Party (SACP), who will all present their speeches in solidarity with our march. Afterwards we will deliver a memorandum to the office of the premier.”
