This came after the department found that some of the temporary educators working in schools of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati did not receive their monthly salaries on April 26. This was due to a delay in the submission of the assumption of duties to the District by Area Offices and schools.

In a statement issued Friday, spokesperson Elias Malindi confirmed that instead of the assumption of duties being submitted immediately at the beginning of the month, they were submitted in the second week of April by schools. Some of the assumptions of duties were incorrectly filled by educators; in other cases, banking details were filled incorrectly.

At other schools principals appointed educators without following their revised Post Provisioning Model (PPM). The PPM per school changes every year, due to the increase or reduction of learners per school. Therefore appointments must be made in line with the current number as would be indicated in the newly released PPM.

Temporary educator’s contracts ended in December 2015 and they were further renewed to 31 March 2016. In ensuring that there was no disruption in the provision of quality education to the learners, the department decided to extend the contracts of the temporary educators from April 2016 to December 31, 2016.

The North West Education and Sport Development MEC, Maphefo Matsemela confirmed that educators will be paid next week and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
