Bloemfontein - A 34-year-old Lieutenant of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has been arrested for possession of illegal ammunition and explosives in Batho location in Mangaung.
Free State police spokesperson, Ikobeng Hlubi said police followed up on a tip-off yesterday and searched the officer's house.
Inside the suspect’s bedroom, in a big brown container, police officials found 33 R5 rifle live rounds, two ballistic R5 rifle live rounds, one 9mm short round, four 9mm parabellum live rounds, one black telescope, one green used hand grenade, one 20 mm hei round, one 20mm and one dummy hand grenade.
The suspect was arrested and is excepted to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court soon.
