Parys murderers only sentenced in July | News Article

Parys - Sentencing procedures for the four men convicted of the murder of Parys businessman, Craig Marx, will resume on July 1.

This follows after today's procedures were postponed due to outstanding correctional services reports. Koenraad van Aswegen, his sons JR and Nickolai, and their friend David Kuyler have all been found guilty of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The four men, along with André Kruger, a fifth accused who later turned state witness, severely assaulted Marx in December 2014, extorted his pin code from him and withdrew large sums of money from his bank account, before asphyxiating him. His body was dumped in a storm water drain outside the town.

Judge Lani Opperman earlier rejected claims from JR, who admitted to causing Marx's death by asphyxiation by cutting off his oxygen supply, that the death was an accident. She added that greed was the main motivator for the men's actions and that they acted with clear intent.

Following Marx's death the men travelled to Potchefstroom where they bought iPads and other electronic equipment.
