Classes to resume at VUT this week─── DANE BEISHEIM 16:41 Mon, 23 May 2016
Vanderbijlpark - Classes at the Vaal University of Technology will resume on Wednesday, after all academic activities were postponed following violent student protests earlier this month.
Protests erupted on May 3 at the campus and flared up again on May 11 and 12, during which several buildings were set on fire. Students demanded among others the withdrawal of criminal charges against fellow students charged with damage to property and grievous bodily harm, and the removal of the outsourced campus security company. According to a statement issued by VUT spokesperson, Segopane Seroka, earlier today, students will be allowed back at residences from tomorrow.
There is also an academic recovery plan in place to enable students to prepare themselves for the upcoming examinations.
