Potchefstroom - One cannot fault the state for adding new accused to the Parys farm murder case’s charge sheet, as the case is still being investigated.

This is according to law expert, Marius du Toit, and follows after four additional suspects appeared in the Parys Magistrate’s court today. They were allegedly part of a group of men, mostly farmers, who assaulted Samuel Tjixa and Simon Jubeba in January.

Cor Loggenberg, Miela Jansen van Vuuren and Loedie van der Westhuizen were each granted R10 000 bail. Another suspect, who is still a minor and cannot be named, was released under the Child Justice Act in the care of his parents until he appears along with the 10 other accused in the matter tomorrow.

Du Toit says in a perfect world all suspects would have been arrested and charged simultaneously.

“It is really a step-by-step process for the state, so I don’t think you can fault the state for now adding accused to the charge sheet; provided they have a solid case against them. The fact that they have been charged in court would indicate that they have prima facie evidence, otherwise the prosecutor would not place it on the court role.”
