NWU vice-chancellor condemns hostile student behaviour towards Cassper Nyovest | News Article

Mahikeng - The North-West University today issued a statement in which it apologised for the conduct of some students at its Mafikeng Campus this past Wednesday 25 May.

Some students were allegedly engaged in untoward behaviour towards the marketing and public relations team of one of South Africa's well-known artists, Refiloe Phoolo, popularly known as Cassper Nyovest. The team was visiting the campus to organise promotions ahead of an event due to take place on Friday 27 May.

In the statement, spokesperson Mokgothu Phenyo Walter said “whatever the reason for this unfortunate incident, management strongly condemns such behaviour. In light of this the NWU management wishes to apologise to the marketing and public relations team of Cassper Nyovest and to Cassper Nyovest himself.”

The statement went on to say the university could never condone such actions by certain students, whose behaviour is contrary to the values of tolerance, right of association and respect that we as an institution embrace.

“The NWU is very proud of and will always support national and local talent such as Mr Phoolo. Young talent must be afforded the dignity and respect they deserve.”
