Two Eastern Cape entrances blocked for the Free State | News Article

Zastron - Two Free State roads entering into the Eastern Cape Province has been blocked by taxis since this morning (Friday). The road between Zastron and Sterkspruit has been closed from the Eastern Cape’s side by the province’s taxi operators.

This follows a strike by the members of the South African National Taxi Association Council (Santaco) in the Eastern Cape, pertaining to their taxis being impounded by the Free State Government when they don’t have vehicle licencing permits.

Santaco’s Free State Chairperson, Daki Qumbu, says they’re not part of the protest.

“Unfortunately, because we use that road, our taxis don’t have access. We have information that the route between Rouxville and Aliwal North has also been closed. It is sad that people from the Eastern Cape have closed that road, just after the bridge, into Aliwal North from the Free State side. This hampers the free flow of traffic and passengers have to be offloaded at the bridge and should cross by foot into Aliwal North.”

They don’t have the full details as of now.
