Report shows concerning ARV and TB stock-outs in the Free State─── CATHY DLODLO 16:37 Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Bloemfontein - The Free State is one of three provinces where the highest number of stock-outs of ARV and TB medication were recorded last year.
This is according to the latest Stop Stock-out Report published on Friday.
The report also indicates that the situation in the province, Mpumalanga and Gauteng has deteriorated since 2014. The financial woes of the Free State Health department were blamed for the HIV/Aids patients being sent home because of the shortage of medication in 2015.
The latest Stop Stock-Out Report, published by the Monitoring Essential Medicines Consortium Group, comes amid talks between the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) and Free State Premier, Ace Magashule, about the health crisis in the province.
TAC General Secretary, Anele Yawa, says stock-outs are at the top of the agenda.
"We also discuss the issue of 3 800 community health care workers that were dismissed in 2013, the issue of Buthelezi Ambulances that are chowing money of the health department, the issue of stock outs, the shortage of doctors and nurses and the working conditions of the community health care workers. But there is a saying that it's easier said than done."
